Sometimes people lie to you because they need to lie to themselves about who they believe they are. Anyone who is truly self-aware understands being around people who lie to themselves is likely to betray you. Why? Because they betray themselves all the time. So then, why would you want to surround yourself with someone who betrays themselves?
If you are new to having to let go of old relationships or friendships this may come as a bit of a shock to you. Anyone else who knows what it is like to have a friend or loved one whom you love but you know is lost and has to let go will understand what is being said.
For Your Team, Honesty Is Better Than Believing The Same Thing
Whether or not someone believes in the same thing you do is not always going to be indicative of whether or not the person is trustworthy. Someone can say they believe in the same things you do but then behind your back they perform actions that are indicative of snake-like activity. It is better for someone to openly talk about how they respectfully disagree than to have someone always agreeing with you or saying “yes” just to stay on your good side.
These kinds of people cannot handle conflict and are entirely unable to perform when they need to the most. Do you really want someone in your business who is not honest? Do you really want someone on your team who does not know how to counsel you with the hard truths? Or do you just want someone to live in a fantasy with?
Weak-Minded People Are Afraid For The Wrong Reasons
There is nothing wrong with being afraid, but whether or not you have the courage to overcome that will be a different story. Weak-minded individuals are neither fortified by their principles nor do they have the courage to hold fast to their convictions. At the slightest sign of confrontation, the weak-minded individual will bend over frontwards or backward just to make sure they are not stepping on anyone's toes. The individual that has the courage to persist in the convictions they’ve had comes from the strength to be disliked.
Integrity and Honor
Integrity and honor are only incorporated into your being when you are doing hard things and excelling beyond them, not when everything is fun and exciting. Many people only want to be around when the good times are rolling, but that’s why they are around. They don’t have to push the stone of righteousness uphill like you did. They just want to have the fun of seeing it roll down the other side.
When The Going Gets Tough
The best kinds of people to have around you in your life are the ones who will make you feel heard and seen in the good times while being capable of telling you the hard truth in the hard times when the going gets tough.
